Didn't two penalties miss Scotland's 1-0 defeat?

Scotland lost 1-0 in the World Cup against Morocco. Scotland claimed two penalties. Former referee Christina Engel said they should be given one. Pundits Roy Keane and Anje Posteglu at ITV Sports disagreed, saying they should be awarded penalties. Scotland head coach Steve Clarke said "I'm not sure" about some of the decisions on the Uzbek referee.

First, Scotland tied things up in the 70th second when Ichmael Saibari scored for Morocco. However, they lost the opening 1-0. In the second half, Scotland claimed two penalties when John McGinn and Scott McTominay fell to the ground. As the referee stopped short of awarding a penalty, there were differences among the Scots players and coaches.

"It was a penalty kick," Angel said on ITV. "The referee is notorious for allowing too much physical contact, but not necessarily giving a penalty. It's a simple foul, there's contact on the cheek, and in another scenario, it could even be a blow to the left leg," he said.

Clarke said the lead test on McGinn was "exasperating." "I'm not sure about the one or two results, but what happened to John McGinn is very bad," he said.

"Morocco defender Issa Diop only received a yellow card for a challenge," Clarke said.

"As far as I know, it's (Diop) a red card," said Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann.

"Whenever the referee thinks there's a foul, he has to call it out," said James McFadden.

"Instead of talking about turnovers, we need to create opportunities from open play," McGinn said.

"We will probably be helped when it comes to refereeing," he said.

Of referee Tantashev's actions in the fight, former Scotsman Pat Nevin said, "There were a few mistakes, but he was good".

"Being like referees now, I like it," he said.
