According to Mundodeportivo.
Background
Glian Mbappé is a key player for Real Madrid and he has proven his skills in La Liga. His skills and the team's success will play an important role in this year's Ballon d'Or race. But the former Barca captain's comment that Mbappé's chances are slim raises questions about his future.
Why this matters
The Ballon d'Or 2026 award is an important event to choose the best football player in the world. In this year's tournament, players from Spain's World Cup-winning team, particularly Lamin Yamal, Rodri Hernandez and Pau Gubarsi, are the main focus. As a result, there has been a debate that Kylian Mbappé, despite being the leading player of Real Madrid, may have little chance.
Key Points
- Mbappé has no chance at this year's Ballon d'Or.
- Big debate on Ballon d'Or 2026 award.
- "Mbappé no tiene nada que hacer en el Balón de Oro".
As the Ballon d'Or 2026 awards ceremony approaches, the debate over the question of who is the best footballer in the world has intensified across Europe. Although voting has already ended, the edition is said to be 'too open' to predict which name will take the top spot for sure. In particular, after the victory of the Spanish team that won the 2026 World Cup, the voters' attention to the main players of the team has created an additional sensation.
In this context, the 30-man shortlist includes Lamin Yamal and Pau Gubarsi, who represent Barcelona, as well as Rodri Hernandez, a pillar of Spain's midfield. Yamal's ability to make a huge impact on the world stage at a young age, the rise of Kubarsi, who shines with confidence in defence, and the consistent play of Rodriy, who shows control in midfield, are said to have strengthened their place on this list. It's also worth remembering that victories on a big stage like the World Cup have often been decisive in Ballon d'Or voting.
On the other hand, Real Madrid strongly believe that Kylian Mbappé is the most deserving of this year's award. At club level his individual talent and ferocity have impressed many. However, a statement by a former Barça captain has given a new twist to this debate. According to him, "Mbbe has no chance this year." This one line again raises questions about how criteria such as the priority given to World Cup record, team leadership and rally impact, contribution at key times, operate in the minds of voters.
Ballon d'Or votes are cast by media representatives from around the world. Performance in major tournaments, especially World Cups and continentals, club level titles, consistency throughout the season and impact on the team play a huge role in the outcome. This year, the “halo effect” of Spain's World Cup victory has boosted the chances of many marquee names, according to many analysts.
Thus, even a superstar with individual brilliance like Mbappé will face a challenge if his impact on the team's collective success and performances is highlighted in a World Cup year. The interest surrounding the "three-man" names of Barcelona's young duo and Spain's midfield hopes has fueled anticipation of who will win this year's award.
Ultimately, the award ceremony stage itself will answer these debates. Although it is not clear who will be crowned as the winner now that the voting is closed, the glory of the World Cup year, Spain's dominance and the La Liga rivalry make the 2026 Ballon d'Or an even more exciting event for football fans. For Indian Tamil fans, the debate also feels close: will young talent rise to the global stage, or will a proven superstar make his mark? All eyes are now on the award stage.
What happens next
Mbappé has been showing his talent in La Liga football, but the former Barca captain's comments could dampen his chances. The final results for the 2026 Ballon d'Or will be announced soon, raising expectations about the future for Mbappé and other players. Meanwhile, Mbappé news and details about his performance will continue to be widely discussed.
