Atlético-Arsenal deal 'added': Julian Alvarez €50m + Victor Giocares share, El Chiringido reports
Jota Jordi says Atletico Madrid - Julian Alvarez transfer 'a done deal' at El Chiringido Deal: €50 million + Victor Gioceres. Real Madrid's €150 million offer rejected earlier; Barcelona interest also lingers. No official announcement.
Atletico Madrid have reportedly reached an 'agreed deal' with Arsenal for the transfer of Julian Alvarez, 26, according to Jota Jordi, a commentator on Spanish TV show 'El Chiringido'. According to him, the deal is a package that includes €50 million in cash and the addition of Swedish frontman Viktor Gyökeres.
This information contradicts Atletico's recent public stance. Jota Jordi noted that when Barcelona president Joan Laborda contacted Atletico chief executive Miguel Gil Marin on Sunday, he was told repeatedly that "Julian Alvarez is not for sale". And he pointed out, "Atletico Madrid have made a 'bundled deal' to sell Julian Alvarez to Arsenal. Let's see if they try to deny this."
According to Jordi, Arsenal are set to include Victor Giokeres, signed from Sporting CP about a year ago (around €70 million plus variables) in this deal package. Giokeres has scored 21 goals so far for Mikel Arteta's side and is valued by Transfermarkt at around €65 million. This would make the combined theoretical value of money (€50 million) + player (Gyokeres) around €115 million.
This figure is well below the €500 million release clause that Atlético has repeatedly indicated; The news also comes in the wake of Atletico rejecting an official offer of €150 million from Real Madrid. It's not clear from Jota Jordi's information whether the Geokeres add-on evens out that pricing gap, or if there are unannounced addons.
There is no official confirmation from either Atletico or Arsenal on this news yet. Although El Chiringido is an influential site in the Spanish football media, it is also notable that Club Beat does not follow the standard citation practices of journalists. The next question is whether the Atlético side will try to deny this, or remain silent.
Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in the summer of 2024 in a deal that could have cost up to €95 million; His contract runs until 2030. A sale of around €115 million, however, would not be considered a huge profit given the huge interest in it. With reports circulating that the player has expressed his desire to move to the Camp Nou in the ongoing saga of tensions with Barcelona since May, the hint of a 'bundled deal' with Arsenal could signal a change in his target direction.
The next thing to watch out for is whether there will be an official announcement from one of the three clubs, or whether Alvarez's representatives will release an explanation of his priority. Arsenal will also need to clarify his future if Gioceres is indeed in the package.
