Mourinho: Real Madrid's 'Unbeatable' Player

According to Vnexpress.

Background

Vinicius Jr. has only scored one goal this season, leading to debates over his performance. Mourinho said Vinicius needs to prove his mettle, with him playing a key role in the Champions League and La Liga.

Why this matters

Vinicius Jr's performance has been key to Real Madrid's Champions League and La Liga success. Mourinho has claimed there are no 'unbeatable' players and indicated that Vinicius will have to prove his mettle, adding to the pressure on his performance.

Key Points

• Mourinho: Real Madrid's 'unbeatable' player.
• Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has dismissed the notion that he is an 'unbeatable' player, saying Vinicius Jr will have to prove himself to earn his place.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has dismissed the notion that he is an "unbeatable" player. In a press conference ahead of the Champions League league-base third match against RB Leipzig, he insisted, "The team's logo is 'unbeatable'. No captain's armband, seniority or notoriety guarantees a place in the top eleven; the final performance will decide the outcome."

At the center of this position is Vinicius Jr. Vinicius has shown a slight dip in form at the start of the season and has scored just one goal in all competitions so far. He was substituted in the 59th minute when Real trailed 1–3 in the league-base match against Roma last week. He came on as a substitute and scored a goal and an assist to win the hurling victory and was awarded the 'Man of the Match' award.

In La Liga, with Vinicius serving a four-match ban, Mourinho gave new signing Yann Diomonte a chance at left-back against Sevilla last weekend. The Ivory Coast youngster added to that confidence with a goal as Real won 4–1. Thus "Is Real playing better without Vinicius?" A discussion also arose. But Mourinho spared Vinicius, insisting he would start in the first team as a left winger in the fixture against Leipzig; He leaves the door open only on Diomande's participation.

Real beat Inter Milan and Roma in the first two rounds of the league-base to take full points instead of four in extra-time. However, Mourinho confirmed that "it is still early days; the immediate goal of this effort is to secure the knockout stage first". In the new-look Champions League format, the top 8 go directly to the 1/8 finals; Teams from 9th to 24th will play in the play-offs. "The goal is to collect as many points as possible and avoid that position. First, position yourself in the front row of 11 or 12 and then aim for the next goal," he argued.

In the domestic league, the pressure in camp is even greater. Real are six points behind Barcelona in the table ahead of El Clasico. So Mourinho is constantly making changes in formation and tactics. The benefit of keeping Arta Culler in central midfield and giving Diomonte and Entric a starting berth was evident in the win over Sevilla. “But we are still far from the ideal shape,” is his assessment. "We have only trained together for three months; it takes time to develop team cohesion and understanding."

He defies the 'one-off' label tactically. The likes of Arta Guler and Federico Valverde are capable of many places; But he made it clear that we will choose links based on their characteristics, balance and opponent's style. Noting Roma Al Mujah, wrong connections can put a heavy burden on the defence; He also expressed the psychological honesty that in the end the coach could be right or wrong.

Mourinho, who has not been involved in domestic disputes over referees, has placed his faith in Romanian referee Istvan Kovač, who is set to officiate the Leipzig clash. He feels that a referee with a strong character will control the game with fewer VAR interventions. He agrees with the idea that Spanish referees are the best, explaining with a subtle analogy that "I always consider my teammates to be the best."

As he completes 100 days in charge of Real, Mourinho says he has been mentally preparing for the pressure and expectations of this big responsibility. “My aim is to contribute more every day” — his approach prioritizes quality over deadlines.

Mourinho's clear roadmap ahead of the Leipzig clash — tough internal competition, steady progress in the standings, the right connections at the right time — gives Real's next-level direction for the season.

What happens next

Vinicius is expected to play on the left in Real Madrid's next Champions League game. With Mourinho keeping the door open to the participation of Yann Diomonte, Vinicius will have to try to secure his place, increasing the importance of his game.
